The term parietal art is inspired by the Latin "parietalis", the walls, and it encompasses all the works made by Man on the walls of caves. Lascaux testifies to the artistic genius of Homo-sapiens. It was listed as a historical monument on 27th December 1940, and is known as the "Sistine Chapel of Prehistory".
Today the cave of Lascaux discovered in 1940 can no longer be visited. After more than 3 years of construction, the International Centre of Art Parietal Lascaux IV opened its doors in 2016
Beyond the exceptional reproduction, you will finish your visit to one of the biggest enigmas in the world questioning yourself about many subjects.
The cave and the International Centre of Art Parietal are located in Montignac, a short distance from the Hôtel de Bouilhac.
